Babe’s Cindy Rae is the first bird dog and house pet of Bird Dog Cigar’s founder, Jeff Gamble. Jeff purchased Cindy at a local hunting preserve in Franklin County, Tennessee. After a couple of visits to Babe’s Bird Barn in Alto, he decided he would like to purchase a hunting dog of his own. Babe’s hunting stock was predominantly Brittanys.
Jeff was intrigued by this breed that seemed to be growing in popularity in the field trial circuit and at the same time appeared to have such a gentle nature.
After viewing several of Babe’s younger dogs, one of the aged Brittanys in the kennel caught Jeff’s attention. This one was an especially high-spirited, mahogany colored, orange-and-white Brittany that was about double the size and had about double the energy of all the others. After one look at Cindy in action, the search for a perfect hunting dog was over and little did Jeff know that this was the start of an inseparable companionship.
Cindy is a most excellent hunting companion. She loves the thrill of the game. Cindy always knows then she is on her way to hunt. She shakes all over with anticipation and barks most loudly if she thinks she is going to be left behind. Though her retrieving may be reluctant on occasion, she sure is an excellent bird finder that Jeff would be willing to run against any champion with confidence in her performance. As much as Cindy loves to hunt though, she thoroughly enjoys her life as a house pet and in fact often times even as a lap dog.
Cindy travels wherever Jeff travels and seems sometimes just as content in the front seat of the car as she does anywhere else as long as Jeff is there too. From swimming pools in Florida to flying in jet airplanes, Cindy has lived a full life and has made the whole Gamble family’s life fuller through her vitality and lovability. They just don’t come any sweeter than Cindy Rae.
Cindy turned ten years old on June 14, 2006. She still loves to hunt as much as she ever did. While Cindy did comlete briefly in NSTRA field trials and received a placement, currently, three of her puppies are NSTRA champions with a total of seven out of nine of her puppies raised by Jeff and his family actively competing in field trials. Jeff, his wife Sheri, his daughter Rachel, and his son-in-law Travis, own and hunt with these puppies, now age four as of March 31, 2006. They are all excellent competitors in the field trial circuit and are just as lovable as Cindy.
Through the venture of Bird Dog Cigar, Jeff has been able to combine two of his greatest pleasures in life, Babe’s Cindy Rae and smoking a premium flavored cigar. Jeff says, “There’s nothing better than a good dog and a good cigar.”
